Buzz,

Happy Holidays, and Merry Xmas to those that celebrate it!

Everyone celebrates a bit differently, but in our house Xmas and New Year is about spending time with family and friends and being grateful for what we have. The Tai Po tragedy I think has brought home a stark reminder of how we need to be grateful for those around us, and make the most of all the time we have available with them.

If you'll bear with me, I want to share something personal from a couple of weeks ago. As many know, I don't usually paddle during the second half of the year, mainly to ensure I spend enough time with family. But I decided to join in the last training session of the year. Now, Buzz hasn't been far from my mind the past few months since the exec has been hard at work organising for the coming year, but I hadn't actually been out on the water in the boat for quite a while.

The session went well and I enjoyed the workout. But in between sets I took a moment to just look around at the buildings and stars, and my fellow paddlers, and I had this moment where all my other problems seemed to fade away as I just took note of how happy I was - being in a great city like Hong Kong, out on the water doing something I really love, with a team of people I genuinely enjoy paddling with.

Moments like these bring into sharp focus how important it is to be surrounded by people who matter – to share time, effort, laughter, and even the hard days together. That is exactly what Buzz is to me: a team that feels like my family, one that shows up for each other on and off the water.

So I just wanted to thank everyone for being part of Team Buzz, and sharing this fun sport with us all. Merry Xmas everyone, enjoy the break, and I look forward to seeing you on the water in the New Year, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, ready to train together, work together on and off the water, and enjoy being a team together.
