Buzz,
Season Start
It was a glorious day on the water at Deep Water Bay yesterday to start the 2026 season. Great to see all of you out in the boat hitting those drills - we'll be well and truly ready once race season comes!
Open Day on Sunday 18th
As is customary at the start of the season, we're putting on an Open Day to encourage new paddlers (and some old paddlers!) to join the team. It will run at the same time we have our normal training session at Deep Water Bay.
Please share the instagram post with anyone you think might be interested in joining, and/or this sign-up link: https://forms.gle/LcPoJLuGd18aZzNi9

Clarifying Expectations
There's been a little confusion around expectations of members this year. so let me try to clarify.
Firstly, it has been asked if we expect high attendance in the second half of the year, now that membership fees cover the whole year. In short - no. The season will still comprise of the first half of the year (summer season) when most races are held, and the second half of the year (winter season) when there are fewer training sessions and races. The only real difference from last year is that if you want to keep training in the second half of the year, there won't be any extra membership fee to do so.
Secondly, some people were asking about attendance levels, concerned they wouldn't reach expected levels. Of course we'd like everyone to turn up to training as much as possible, but we understand that life gets in the way and sometimes work and family need to be prioritised above training sessions. We just ask you do the best you can, not hit a minimum attendance level.
Like anything else in the team, you can always talk to your captains about these things, or other stuff you're unsure of or want to bring up. Your captains are there to motivate you, but also listen to you, and have your best interests at heart.
Fishy Dinners
There are some fishy dinners coming up:
16 Jan: Healthy Dragon 10th Anniversary
24 Jan Tung Hing Fishy Dinner
30 Jan: Stanley Fishy Dinner
It's important we turn up and be part of the fishy community, so do please come along to one or two if you can. Please sign up on TeamApp.
