Happy New Year Buzz!
Hope everyone has had a good break these past few weeks – my waistline tells me I might have had too good a break…
2025 was a landmark year for Buzz - our 25th year! I thought we could start the year with a look back at some of 2025's highlights, so this will be a photo-heavy update with a lot of reminiscing.
2026 Season Begins
But before we get into the year that's been, let's first prepare for the season about to start. Season start is a mere week away – I hope you're all as eager as I am to get back into the boat.
The exec is hard at work preparing for the year ahead, and having an early indication of numbers makes our lives a hell of a lot easier, so if you're joining us in 2026, please do sign up asap.
Fees are the same in 2026 as last year, but there is no longer any extra fee to join in off-season. We'll still have fewer training sessions and less intense racing schedule in the second half of the year, but your fees cover training for the whole year through.

Racing in 2025
2025 was a busy year in the boat, with 15 days of racing all up. Here are some fond memories on the boat.
And just to remind you of the excitement of a race, here's the women and men's boat racing at Kellet Island, and the team doing a turn at Hualien!
Alumni Team
The Chai Wan race was extra special last year as we had a full boat of Buzz alumni competing. They showed us they still have paddling at heart and those many training session are still ingrained in them!
It was a super fun day and was great to see so many old friends again.
Buzz Fishy Dinner
The next night, for the first time ever, Buzz hosted our own fishy dinner. We've been to so many fishy dinners over the years, hosted by our many community friends, so it was very satisfying to be able to host one for them this time around.
Let's just say that hi-jinks ensued and leave it to the photos to explain!
Other Social Events
Aside from all these, there were plenty of other social events on the calendar last year. We had a particularly fancy black tie event in March, a fantastic kayaking day out, end-of-year bowling, and numerous other dinners and get-togethers.
This year we'll continue to host fun events for everyone to bond together off the boat - the closer a team we are, the better we paddle together and the better we enjoy each others' excellent company!
Onwards and upwards
If you've made it this far, congratulations - you made it through a sea of sweet sweet nostalgia! Now it's onto the 2026 season - sign up now and we'll see you next week, bright and bushy-tailed, ready train hard and race hard. Here's the sign-up link.
